Summer in the City

Travel, Uncategorized
And you say Chi city,
Chi city, Chi city
I’m coming home again.
Do you think about me now and then?
Do you think about me now and then?
Cause I’m coming home again
I’m in home again.
Ah, Kanye. Took the words right out of my mouth, as always.
Chicago isn’t quite home for me, but it’s always felt like a second (or third) home to me. And now it really is home, at least for the summer. It didn’t hit me that this wasn’t my usual weekend trip into the city when I was figuring out how to get a library card yesterday (I’m super cool) and I was like, Hey, I AM a resident. Yikes.
Summer is the best in Chicago. You go to Cubs games at historic Wrigley Field, eat the world’s most phenomenal hot dogs, and walk through parks along Lake Michigan that are full of amazing art. You can ride the Ferris wheel on Navy Pier and stare up at the skyline, or you can stare down at the skyline from the glass box up in Sears tower (okay, Willis Tower, but the locals call it Sears still and I refuse to be a tourist).
I took my first train for the summer out into the city last weekend, and I plan on making this a regular thing. Since it was the first time I’d been to the city since winter, I started with the basics:

The Bean

The Bridge

The Museums (so many of them)

The Cubs

(they totally won because I was there and I’m good luck)

The Dunkin’ Donuts

Yes, the unthinkable has happened: I’ve started drinking coffee at locations other than Starbucks! And as much as I love Starbs…I also love donuts.
Reach for the stars so if you fall you land on a cloud
Jump in the crowd, spark you lighters, wave em around,
And if you don’t know by now, I’m talking about Chi Town

Keep up with the rest of my Chicago adventures this summer as I start my internship, turn 21 (hallelujah and hello city bar scene), and experience my new home like my favorite Chicago local Kanye West. Mixtape dropping soon.

Xo,

A
