I’ve noticed a fascinating trend: people want to be an old soul at heart.
A decade or so ago, fashion was about keeping up with current styles and leaving the past in the past. Retailers like H&M, Forever 21, and even the high-end Nordstroms of the world thrived on the need to have a trend and have it now. My generation was the Now Generation, growing up with instant gratification and the desire to fit in.
But a new generation enters, and they have a lot of respect for the old generations. They look for what makes them unique, not what makes them the same. Which is why Forever 21 and Nordstrom have lost ground to vintage and resale stores. It’s way cooler to raid your mom’s closet now, and thank goodness, because my own mom has killer style.
Don’t be afraid to dig around for what makes you feel like you, whether it’s the latest thing Kendall Jenner wore, or the oldest thing you can find at Goodwill.
